Artist Statement

In South Korea, a society steeped in Confucian traditions, a patriarchal culture often discriminates against lesbians, pressuring women to conform to unrealistic beauty standards while overlooking their personalities. This stigma makes it challenging for queer individuals to express themselves openly.

Despite these challenges, I proudly embrace my lesbian identity, supported by my parents' love and acceptance amidst traditional norms. My art serves as a vessel for self-expression and a tool to challenge societal limitations.

Beginning with observational drawings of lesbianism across cultures, my practice has evolved to include deconstructed figures and abstract elements. I explore themes of identity, sexuality, and social justice, believing that embracing one's true self is a source of strength.

Until everyone can live freely without fear, I will create art that inspires comfort and empowerment. By sharing my experiences, I hope to encourage others to embrace their identities and advocate for a more inclusive world.
